We don't recommend this. To make sure your new patio lasts, we prefer to dig out the old surface and lay a fresh, compacted sub-base. This prevents the new slabs from shifting or cracking and allows us to get the levels and drainage exactly right.

For natural stone, you might want to use a pressure washer once a year and consider applying a sealer to protect the stone from stains and weather damage.
